Yuqing Liu is a PhD candidate in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, Faculty of Arts, at the University of Hong Kong, and is affiliated with the eXtended Humanities VR + AR Research Lab. She received her BA in Chinese Language and Literature and a BFA in Art Theory from Peking University, and subsequently completed an MA in Theory of Literature and Art there.
Her research interests encompass cultural studies and film studies, with a particular emphasis on the intersection between the digital and the humanistic. She is currently focusing on affectivity in virtual reality (VR) films, exploring how immersive digital environments evoke affective experiences through embodied perception. Her work often situates humanities-based affect theory within technical and creative contexts of immersive media, engaging both critical analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her academic work has been published in CSSCI-indexed journals, such as Contemporary Cinema, and she has presented her research at major international conferences, including MLA, ICLA, and ACSS. She has also engaged in interdisciplinary research bridging humanities and digital media, including presenting work at SIGGRAPH Asia, a top-tier international conference in computer graphics.
She is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the China National Scholarship and the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). In addition to her academic research, she is an active poet. Her poems have been published in leading Chinese poetry and literary journals, including Poetry Monthly, Poetry Periodical, and Youth Literature, and have also been included in selected poetry anthologies. She has received multiple poetry awards.
